PMX Radio was originally created back in 2001. Founded by DJs Eternal and Kiko - longtime friends and former members of the nefarious Washington DC-based Parametrics Crew. PMX Radio was a creative collaboration between local drum'n'bass producers and DJs, showcasing DC-area Jungle/Drum-n-Bass talent with special guests visiting when in the area.
PMX broadcasted every Friday night from 10:00 until Midnite - from a VIP-style lounge area in the (now-defunct) Metatrack Studios, off 14th Street in Washington DC. The studio was set up with some turntables, monitors, TV, computer, couches and enormous JBL subwoofer. The original PMX Radio broadcast sessions became the unofficial pre-party spot for a handful of DC's ruffneck hooligan Drum'n'Bass producers/DJs. A lovely BYOB policy eventually turned the place into a total zoo - some nights the chaos would spill out the door, into the hall and down the steps. Fun while it lasted, a year later Metatrack eventually went out of buisness, and PMX Radio went into hibernation.
4 years later, in 2006 - Steve Eternal aka Steve PMX decided to revive the sleeping beast. Although the original format was great at the time, Steve's musical influences and interests run deeper than any one specific genre. So he decided to revive the PMX moniker in a completely new format. Instead of broadcasting a 2-hour show every week which was limited to one specific genre, the decision was made to invest in a reliable Shoutcast host server - and to broadcast underground DJ mixes from all styles of music 24-7.
Steve PMX was heavily influenced by the Dc/Baltimore underground rave scene of the early-mid 1990s, and alot of the content being played on PMX Radio will clearly reflect that. However, alot of that excitement is coming back. Electro, Techno, Dub, Dubstep, Garage, House, Breakbeat, Jungle - these are the fundamental categories that the industry uses to sell records. They are also labels that DJs use to promote themselves - giving promoters an idea of what they sound like and likewise a "category" in which they can be placed for easy identification.
More and more artists are finding themselves trapped within a certain sound, and value their artistry enough to break out of the box and to try something new. Cultured artists who have been around the block see more to their music than can be summed up in one label, and have really started to blur the lines between these genres/styles. This is really what PMX Radio is all about.
